DOÑANA NATIONAL PARK, ANDALUCIA, PARK’S DEVELOPMENT
The Doñana National Park in Andalusia, is home to a variety of environments (terrestrial, fl uvial, coastal and transition). It is in territorial contiguity and functional relationship with other Spanish protected areas of the Mediterranean. In addition to environmental features, the park’s development plan also promotes sustainable practices related to agriculture, livestock, fi sheries and tourism. Doñana appears therefore not just like a preservation area, but also like a place where local processes of sustainable development are experienced. This paper will analyze the envisaged development and the underway activities strictly related to the park’s policies.
Keywords: spanish protected areas; local sustainable improvement; ecological tourism.
