It is generally agreed that in Martial’s Twelfth Book there are no epigrammatic cycles; in the view of many scholars, this demonstrates that this book has an anomalous status within Martial’s production. A review of epigrams 18, 29 [26], 57 and 68 allows the identification of a particular cliens cycle that combines different chronological and geographical realities.
