At the onset of the 15th book of his Geography, Strabo discusses Dionysus’ legendary expedition to India, introducing a series of poetic citations. Among these, the sentence καὶ μηροτραφὴς δὲ λέγεται poses an interpretative issue, to the extent that some editors have expunged it. This article aims to explain the reasons for retaining the expression and attributing the passage to Sophocles.
