The decipherment of a passage in Longus’ Daphnis and Chloe, where the Florentine ms. Laur. conv. soppr. 627 is the only testimony, provides the elimination of a lacuna present in all modern editions. The deciphered text discloses also a witness in the Italian translation by Annibal Caro (about 1538), who used a Greek text that depends basically on the ms. Vat. gr. 1348, but with some variant readings from the Florentine ms. (here collected and reviewed), possibly stemming from a collation by Poliziano or his entourage.
