Italo Mariotti’s commentary on Sallust’s Coniuratio Catilinae (Bologna 2007) is one of the most important exegetical works on the monograph by the Roman historiographer. This work combines many qualities from the millenary tradition of the Sallustian exegesis; stimulated by the critical essays published during the 19th century, it represents a fundamental commentary to the Sallustian monograph and a model of exegesis of ancient literary texts.
