The paper aims to outline the use of quotations from Lucretius by Latin grammarians, for whom the Latin poet was an important witness of linguistic peculiarities perceived as closer to the most ancient phase of the Latin language. Lucretian quotations are divided into some general categories, and particular attention is paid to verses not found in the manuscript tradition of De rerum natura. Most quotations can be attributed to Lucilius, because of the same abbreviation used for both names.
